SUMMARY:Floating Key Launch: Lyrical Poetry Experience
DESCRIPTION:Floating Key is a nomadic curatorial platform centering Black elevation in Naarm. Launching on January 31\, 2018 at Afro Hub in Carlton North\, Floating Key presents a lyrical poetry reading and communal dining experience. \nFloating Key acknowledges that the launch and the initiative takes place on stolen and occupied land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We recognize Black Indigeneity at the epicentre for which the movement operates. We recognize that sovereignty was never ceded.\n—-\nThe theme of the night will be hair (body hair\, pubic hair\, etc) and its many manifestations into our identities\, through politics\, religion\, and other various intersections. The hope is that all participants will bring a unique perspective to hair and it’s function within black\, POC\, and queer communities. Our experiences are distinctly different\, however\, they are threaded through the complexities from which whiteness influences social standards. \nWe will open the floor to the Black and POC queer community to share their writing and experiences entangled in hair. If you would like priority as an open mic speaker\, please contact us\, or prepare to volunteer your words at the event. \nWe are blessed to have words provided by:\n* Idil Ali\n* Argo Theoharis\n* Sista Zai\nwith musical accompaniment from:\n* Yusuf Harare Jnr\n* Isobel D’Cruz Barnes\n* Rodolfo Panga. \nEntry to the launch requires that all participants bring a momentum to share with another member of the audience. Items to share include\, but are not limited to: handwritten letters\, books\, personal experience\, or any other momentums that you deem valuable to share and contribute within the space. \nStepping in to a Floating Key space\, means accepting the code of ethics and terms and conditions for which we operate. Keep your eyes on this space for an updated document on the Floating Key economy and code of ethics. \nGeneral presale tickets are in the link. Solidarity ticketing applies to those who do not identify as Black or POC. Recognizing your privilege and place in the initiative is a must. \nDoor Prices:\n$10 Concession\n$20 General Admission\n$25 Solidarity \n*NOTAFLOF (No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds)\nGuest List Available. Please message Floating Key or China Aleisse to reserve your space. \nThe venue is wheelchair accessible with gender neutral bathrooms. The event will have Auslan interpretation. \n
